The
Professional Upholsterers' Association was started in 1988. It was established
to promote professional workmanship, technical proficiency, sound business practices
and ethical conduct in the field of upholstering. The organization has participated
in annual Vendor shows, Home & Garden Shows and educational seminars, enhancing
the image and respect of upholsterers while promoting high quality upholstered
products for the client.
The
Technical Colleges throughout the State of Minnesota closed the doors on upholstery
programs. Although many individuals want to learn the skill, opportunities to
learn have been very limited to all but the self-taught. In 2005, seventeen years
later, the Association is working hard to tackle the challenging task of promoting
education for the next generation of upholsterers, as well as offering continuing
study for those already in the business. The organization provides continuing
education through presentations and publications, including the Upholstery Journal,
and a newsletter which lists current events and offers free advertising to its'
members.
The Association
also creates a forum for people in the trade to exchange ideas and socialize.
It allows members to problem solve together. The organization invites anyone interested
in the field of upholstery, furniture creation and preservation and design to
attend our monthly meetings. Membership is not a requirement. Check this site
frequently for meeting dates, news and events.
